Custom Master of Deathwing

In the spirit of the Dark Angels codex coming out next month I thought I'd toss this up. One of the armies I play is field-as deathwing and this is my Master of Deathwing I made a while back to lead them. The body is a metal space marine force commander, arms are plastic thunder hammer and storm shield, face plate is a shoulder pad from Warhammer Fantasy that I trimmed up, and one of the shoulder pads is from the Dark Angels Vehicle accessory sprues. We'll just have to wait and see for the next codex to find out if he get's retired.

Short Version: Games Workshop vs Spots the Space Marine

Bottom Line Up Front: It's back up for sale. Click Here.

Author's original blog post 13 December 2012 Click Here.
GW claims trademark ownership over the term "space marine", and so Amazon takes book down from sale.

Tons of comments, blogs, and news ensue.

Twitter feed about the ridiculousness. Click here.

The author has a list of the 37 news articles and counting here.
To include but not be limited to BBC, Huffington Post, The Guardian, and The Register.
If GW's goal was to make the news and get some publicity well they did it.

Electronic Frontier Foundation helps defend the author. See her blog post here.

New Dark Angels Codex Review - Bullet Format

No long winded paragraphs. Here are my thoughts on what I think you might care about in easy to read one liners.

  • Well constructed full color book in a similar design to the new Chaos Space Marine codex
  • No Cypher here either
  • Interesting updated fluff.
  • Internal page number references all over the place so information is easy to find
  • 10 man Deathwing terminator squads are now possible
  • Deathwing and Ravenwing can exist in the same army list
  • The Mind Worm Psyker power is still there but is completely different and is for Ezekiel only.
  • 1 New flyer in 2 variants, no Stormtalon, no Stormraven
  • All rules and wargear updated appropriately in line with the new generation of the main rules, but not over the top.
  • Fold out reference pages in very back
  • New faq is already available here
  • It's $ .05 (U.S.) less than the new Chaos Space Marine Codex... wtf.

New Chaos Space Marine Codex Review - Bullet Format

No long winded paragraphs. Here are my thoughts on what I think you might care about in easy to read one liners.

  • Helbrute = Chaos Dreadnought. The Chaos Dreadnought is gone but the Helbrute is for all intents the same.
  • Khorne Berzerkers, Thousand Sons, Plague Marines, and Noise Marines are all elite choices.
    • Can be taken as troops if you take the appropriate character.
  • No Legion specific rules except for the above 4 units and the usual Marks of Chaos, but no rules for Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Red Corsairs, etc.
  • No Cypher even though he's on GW site as an HQ choice for ordering (2 to 3 week despatch? possible clue?)
  • Chaos Cultists are troops and can take Marks of Chaos just like standard Chaos Space Marines
  • Chaos Spawn are a Fast Attack choice. 1 to 5 per squad at 30 pts each.
  • All rules and wargear updated appropriately in line with the new generation of the main rules.
  • No drop pods.
  • Fold out reference pages in very back

Subject: Please Identify - 1990's Thunderhawk - Resin not Metal???

I recently acquired this Thunderhawk. It is styled in a similar fashion to the 1990's Thunderhawk I remember when I first got into the game. The two key differences are that it is resin, not metal and the engines flare out instead of coneshaped. It is considerably smaller than the the Forgeworld model and very different stylistically. I have a theory that it may have been an unreleased Armourcast kit, as it looks similar to their style of parts casting. If anyone can identify where this model came from, I would greatly appreciate it. I am waiting on the model to arrive. When it does, I will post better pics. Thank you.

1000 Chapters

I stumbled across this page last night and was seriously impressed. The author of this blog compiled and organized a page of 1,069 loyalist space marine chapters and counting. No one does things like this because they're bored. You vacuum because your bored. You build things like this out of love of the hobby. If you're looking for inspiration for your own chapter this is as excellent place to start. For the glory of the Golden Throne I hope he's backed up this site. I don't know how current it is but I did see that he did an update about a year ago.

In his own words...
"Each marine image links to a chapter resource page. Most of the canon chapters link to the Lexicanum. The fan made chapters link to a forum, or blog, posted Index Astartes (IA), or a gallery of painted miniatures. Some fan made chapters are missing their link. You can tell the ones missing an IA as no boarder will be displayed around the image when you hover over it. If you click on one of these images you’ll see a request page asking if you know where the chapter comes from."

This is linked preview to the page. Click it and go explore.

Digital Space Marines Codex Reviewed over at DakkaDakka

Yakface over at DakkaDakka did a fantastic job of doing a very thorough review of the new digital Space Marine Codex. If you're an apple ipad user it's pretty. If you're an android user like I am... well I guess we'll just have to stick with what we're got. Hit the link and read what he had to say. Good stuff.

Fourty-eight hours, Terra Standard Time, the Imperial Guard Garrison at Inquisitorial Research Station Attilus VII in Segmentum Ultima failed to make the required daily report to Inquisitor Luminas Varus of the Pristine Tower.

An urgent warp missive was transmitted to reach the nearest loyalist forces for immediate support.  The Emperor’s Tears are in peril.

A Space Marine detachment of the Augurs Legion in transit to Damocles Gulf has responded and are within two days warp travel.

Custom Chaplain Dreadnought

Plastic body, Warhammer Fantasy Skeleton, power fist arm from an old metal Space Wolves dreadnought, torches and scroll rolls from Inquisitor Karamazov's Throne of Judgement, and the bell hanging from the assault cannon is from somewhere in Warhammer Fantasy (I found it in my bitz box but can't remember where).

New 40k FLyers

According to Beasts of War via the Bell of Lost Souls forums in June Warhammer 40k will be getting some new flyers. Beasts of War tends to be fairly solid on these things. While the sketches are previews I tend to think the models will most likely be close to what they have.
